A hidden paradise in Bamberg
The Bootshaus (Boat House) is a little gem hidden away in the beautiful city park Hain (“grove”), situated directly at the water’s edge. The left branch of the Regnitz River runs by almost leisurely on its way north towards the river Main.
The Hain is the green idyll in the South of Bamberg. It was planned and laid out as an English landscape garden alongside the Regnitz in 1803 by Stephan von Stengel under the order of King Maximilian I. Joseph of Bavaria. It features many little pavilions, lawns, many big and small paths and even a small botanic garden built in 1906.
Close by is lock 100, one of the last operational locks of the old Ludwig canal from the 19th that connected the Main River with the Danube River and was the predecessor of the modern Rhine-Main-Danube Canal. An old line boat ferry takes passengers across the Regnitz from the “Hain” to the other side where up the hill you may find the famous Bierkellers of Bamberg.
Take a stroll through the beautiful Hain towards the Bootshaus and enjoy the September sun under the trees. At the Bootshaus you will be greeted with a little surprise. Watch the sunset over the tree tops and gaze across the Regnitz.
Later a varied buffet will be arranged for you with different appetizers, entrees and desserts including vegetarian and vegan options.
“Frau Schmitt & Café del Sol”, a quintet with vocals, piano, saxophone, base and drum, will accompany our evening with some Soul and Groove. After dinner, they’ll invite us to take it to the floor for a dance or two.
We’re looking forward to a great evening with you in Bamberg!
